What women put into their bodies is directly linked to their overall health —especially breast health.   Lower levels of Vitamin-D have been linked to breast cancer . The change you can easily make is raising your vitamin-D levels by eating high vitamin-D foods.

Here are 4 Vitamin-D rich foods you should add to your diet for better breast health.

Dark, Leafy Greens

Kale, collards, and spinach are popular favorites for dark, leafy greens.

Not only do dark greens have high levels of Vitamin-D , but they also have chlorophyll. Chlorophyll is a compound that blocks the absorption of cancer-causing compounds called heterocyclic amines

Salmon

Not only does salmon have a surprising amount of Vitamin-D, but it is packed with omega-3's. Omega-3 fatty acids have lignan. Lignan's are compounds that help control your estrogen levels, reducing the production of cancer-causing cells.

Mushrooms

Mushrooms act like humans in that they are able to process V itamin-D from UV light . The catch is, you need to look for wild mushrooms when adding them to your diet. Commercially grown mushrooms are grown in dark places, where the mushrooms are not exposed to sunlight.

Fortified Milk Alternatives

Most people know that milk and dairy products are the go-to options for Vitamin-D. But did you know that soy, almond, and other milk alternatives are fortified with Vitamin-D

It is common practice for regular milk, and milk alternatives to have Vitamin-D added during processing. Especially if you are vegan, or have a dairy allergy, you can still get your Vitamin-D from your milk of choice.

The Bottom Line

Vitamin-D is an essential part of anyone's diet, especially if you are looking to better your breast health. Vitamin-D has shown to help decrease the production of cancer-causing cells.  However, you do not have to limit yourself to only drinking milk to get your dose of Vitamin-D.

Leafy greens, fish, mushrooms, and milk alternatives are great food choices for getting high levels of Vitamin-D in your diet. When possible, choose wild caught fish, organic greens, wild mushrooms and grass-fed dairy products.  Always make sure that you check with your doctor before making any drastic changes to your diet.
